10 Reasons Proper Posture at Your Desk Is Crucial

It’s always tempting to slouch a bit while we work, especially during the afternoon hours after the lunch break. However, not sitting properly at your desk can have negative implications on your health. Maintaining proper posture while at work and at home will alleviate you from having to deal with common aches and pains.

So for your own good, sit up straight and don't slouch!

1. Relieve stress and pressure from joints and muscles.

Proper posture means you won’t be placing too much stress or pressure on specific muscles and joints. This translates into your body needing less energy to perform tasks like standing up, stretching, and bending down

2. Easy Breathing.

Slouching and sitting incorrectly can make it harder to breathe easily as it constricts your airways. Certain positions can also put added pressure on your lungs and ribcage.

3. Avoid Injuries.

Bad posture is closely associated with back injuries and pain. Moreover, putting too much pressure in certain areas can also affect your nerves, leading to tingly sensations or even arthritis.

4. Digestion

Bad posture can hinder good digestion. If you slouch or like to sit in crumpled positions, then you are putting extra pressure on your stomach, which prevents digestion and can lead to heartburn.

5. Improves Memory.

Research has suggested that good posture can aid with improving memory and it also helps people learn new things.

6. Look Great!

Sitting up straight makes you look taller and slimmer. Slouching not only puts unnecessary pressure on joints and muscles, but it also creates unflattering angle.

7. Better Impressions.

Good posture, especially working, can help you concentrate and improve your performance.

8. Improves your Concentration.

Good posture, especially working, can help you concentrate and improve your performance.

9. Improves your Mood.

Proper posture can improve your mood and create a more positive emotional state.

10. Prevents Fatigue.

Since your body will be properly aligned, good posture prevents fatigue as your muscles, joints, and ligaments are used more efficiently; meaning your body exerts less energy.
